Katja ROTREKL studied stage and costume design as well as film and exhibition architecture at the Mozarteum University of Salzburg. Furthermore, she graduated in Romance studies with the focus on media science and history of art at the University of Vienna.
At the Salzburg Festival she was able to gain her first practical experience. Later, in the years 2006 and 2007 she did her first stage and costume design at the Theater of Salzburg. Since 2008 she has been working as a stage and costume designer and as stage design assistant at diverse houses – among others Residence Theater Munich, Opera Halle, Public Theater Vienna, Public Opera Vienna, Opera House Wuppertal, Theater of Salzburg. Along with that she continues to produce CDs and music videos together with different artists.
Since 2013 she has been working as a freelance stage and costume designer and as a filmmaker. She gives presentations at various universities in Mexico on a regular basis and exhibits her own artwork in the fields of documentary film, photography and painting.
